FRN’s Support Services provide individuals with disabilities and families of children with disabilities to get the support they need to lead a full and happy life.
FRN’s employment and transition programs support youth and adults with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities through mentorship, education, and employment in order to become integrated, productive members of their communities.
FRN’s public health department aims to address the social determinants of health that impact individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, physical disabilities, and chronic conditions.
The Family Resource Network provides engaging educational opportunities for professionals, families, and individuals across New Jersey. Our programs are offered both virtually and in person and cover a wide range of topics, including epilepsy, autism, caregiving, transition planning, and IEP development.
When Sal first joined FRN’s EmployAbility program, he wasn`t sure what he was capable of. He loved technology and gaming and had even built his own computer, but hadn`t had the opportunity to gain meaningful workplace experience.
Through small-group training and paid work experience at JY Computer Services, Sal had the opportunity to develop workplace skills, take on new responsibilities, and learn what it means to be part of a professional environment. He also explored hardware and device repair, gaining experience related to his interest in gaming technology.
But some of his most meaningful progress went beyond the skills he learned. Sal also began to see what he could bring to the workplace. He became more comfortable communicating and recognizing his own strengths. For someone who once struggled to picture himself at work, that growing belief in his abilities was an important step forward.
During National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), Sal’s story is a reminder that meaningful employment opportunities can do more than prepare someone for a job. They can change how someone sees themselves and what they believe is possible while helping them pursue career goals that matter to them.

Aidan has always had a passion for baseball, and one big dream: to work for his favorite team, the New York Yankees.
After earning his associate’s degree in Sport Management, Aidan joined FRN’s EmployAbility program. His first placement was with the Princeton National Rowing Association, where he embraced the opportunity to learn about event management and a sport that was completely new to him.
When Aidan was ready for his next opportunity, his job coach took a chance and reached out to the Yankees. That outreach opened the door, but Aidan earned his place. After multiple rounds of interviews, he landed a job as a Guest Ambassador with his favorite team!
Today, with the support of his family, Aidan commutes from Central Jersey to the Bronx for Yankees home games during baseball season, while also working for FedEx. He`s hoping his seasonal position will eventually lead to full-time employment with the team.
During National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), Aidan`s story shows what can happen when determination meets opportunity and the right support. His job coach helped open a door, but Aidan was the one who walked through it.

A caregiver’s role doesn’t always stop at home. Navigating care for a loved one can lead to bigger questions about future planning, available resources, and the policies that shape their lives. It can also inspire caregivers to speak up and help create change.
On Monday, November 2, the National Caregivers Conference’s Connected to Policy & Planning breakout track will explore how families can prepare for the future and turn their lived experiences into advocacy.
Sessions include:
Life Planning: Securing the Future for People with Disabilities
Presented by Jason Miller, MA, LPC, and Beth Manes, Esq.
From the Living Room to the Assembly Room: A Case Study for Caregiver-as-Advocate at the National and State Level
Presented by Joanna Glum
From planning for a loved one’s long-term quality of life to finding ways to make caregivers’ voices heard, these sessions will offer opportunities to consider how families can prepare for what lies ahead and become more involved in shaping the systems that affect them.

Caregivers devote countless hours to supporting loved ones, often while balancing careers, families, and their own well-being.
Kessler Foundation`s research found that many caregivers face significant challenges, including lack of time, stress, sleep difficulties, and emotional strain. In response, the Foundation developed caregiver-focused programs designed with direct input from caregivers themselves.
One such initiative is a peer mentoring program, where experienced caregivers provide guidance, practical advice, and emotional support to those navigating the caregiving journey. The program helps caregivers access resources, develop skills, and connect with others who understand their experiences firsthand.
By investing in caregivers, Kessler Foundation is helping strengthen support systems for individuals with disabilities and their families.
We are grateful for Kessler Foundation’s support of the National Caregivers Conference and for its continued commitment to improving the lives of caregivers and the families they support.
