In response to the legalization of recreational marijuana, Epilepsy Services of New Jersey will host a virtual Medicinal Cannabis Symposium on April 20, 2021 in partnership with the Cannabis Education and Research Institute (CERI) to educate, inform, and inspire patients and caregivers about the appropriate pathways for safe access to medicinal cannabis.
The program will bring together leading experts, scientists, clinicians, dispensary operators, advocacy groups, and researchers to share first-hand insights and the latest information about key considerations patients and caregivers should explore when accessing medicinal cannabis in New Jersey.

What will the legalization of recreational marijuana will mean for medicinal marijuana?
Speaker: David Knowlton, CERI Chairman and CEO
Dave Knowlton previously served as CEO and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Compassionate Care Foundation, which was a non-profit medicinal marijuana dispensary in Egg Harbor Township and Atlantic City NJ. Dave saw firsthand how medicinal cannabis could relieve the suffering of patients with cancer, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy and many other disorders. He will explore the medicinal cannabis movement and where we are today.

Topic: The Real-World Clinical Experience of Medicinal Marijuana
What patients and providers need to know
Speaker: Jill Giordano Farmer, D.O., MPH, CERI Advisory Board Member
Dr. Farmer is a board-certified neurologist who believes that more physicians, particularly specialists, should consider incorporating medicinal marijuana into their practice and become more knowledgeable. She will talk about her experiences recommending medicinal marijuana to her patients and what she thinks patients and providers need to know to improve the patient experience.
Topic: Epilepsy and Medicinal Marijuana: What the Research Says
When and why to consider medicinal cannabis for your child with epilepsy
Speaker: Firas Taha, M.D.
Dr. Taha is board-certified in Clinical Neurophysiology and Neurology with a Special Qualification in Child Neurology. Dr. Taha is a certified marijuana prescriber in New Jersey, where he prescribes medical marijuana for patients with refractory epilepsy. His research interests include childhood epilepsy syndromes, psychogenic non-epileptic spells in children and intractable epilepsy.

Understanding your needs and assisting patients on their cannabis journey
Speaker: Spencer Belz, The Botanist Dispensary
The Botanist Dispensary is located in Egg Harbor Township and Atlantic City, NJ. Spencer has been working to assist patients on their cannabis journey since 2018. Explore with Spencer the experience a patient receives when choosing our dispensary and ask your questions on about medical cannabis and CBD products in a in safe and comfortable environment.

Reforms to improve access and protect the medicinal market
Speaker: Pete Cammarano, CERI Board Member
NJ Cannabis Regulatory Commission is a newly formed five-member commission, within the New Jersey Department of Health, which regulates all businesses producing and selling medical and recreational marijuana in the Garden State.
Understand the industry growth and need for additional regulation, as well as the latest reforms to reduce costs and increase access.
