Getting Help Paying for your Medications

Anti-Epileptic Drugs (AEDs) also known as Anti-Seizure Medications (ASMs) are the main therapy for epilepsy to prevent seizures. Medication adherence plays an important role in gaining and maintaining seizure control and seizure freedom. Our goal at ESNJ is to support you on your epilepsy journey by ensuring that you have continued access to treatment and care. On this page we are sharing some options you have for reducing the price of your medication.

Health Insurance

Health insurance can help protect you from high medical costs.

When selecting your coverage for the year, it is key to review the drug formulary. A formulary is a list of generic and brand name prescription drugs covered by your health plan. Your health plan may only help you pay for the drugs listed on its formulary. To learn about more affordable health coverage options and how to obtain the right benefits for you and your family, please contact our Navigators by calling 800-355-0271. 

Depending on the Tier of your ASM, you may find that even with health insurance coverage you are still responsible for a copay and/or out-of-pocket costs.
It is important to review the drug formulary each year even if you are enrolling in the same health insurance plan, as the list can change!
Questions about which plans cover which prescriptions and what tier your medications are listed under?

Step 1:

Make a list of ALL medications that your doctor has prescribed (note: generics are typically in a different tier than their brand names, it is important that you write down the exact medication name that is listed on your prescription)
